Social in Haus Khas Village designed by the Impressario group saw massive groups of freelancers and start ups use the venue as a co working space to ideate, ruminate and network. After 9 months of a successful stint in the village, they decided to take over the space that was once Mocha in Defence Colony and launch another one that was more accessible.

I went to Social in Defence Colony on a weekday evening and was thoroughly impressed with how full it was. The place was bustling with excitement and the co-working space in the day turned into a swanky watering hole for professionals, teenagers and Delhi’s hip crowd. Spread over two levels with a small smoking area-the establishment retained its rustic and industrial charm with a simple and minimalistic design. Built along the lines of the Haus Khas establishment, this one featured a rustic staircase, benches and unfinished work along with a dilapidated lift in keeping with the theme.

We had called to make a reservation and had a table within minutes of walking in. We ordered a few rounds of vodka tonics and a friend ordered a bourbon and coke. The drinks arrived pretty promptly and were reasonably priced. We had eaten an early dinner but got tempted to try some of the stuff. We ordered the fish tacos, a portion of the death wings (you’ve gotta have them to believe it) and a noodle box.
The fish tacos were light, bursting with flavour with just the right amount of spice. The death wings were served on a skewer with deep fried onion rings but were way too spicy for me. I managed to get through 3/4th of the portion because it was absolutely delicious. The fiery wings came with a pitcher of lemonade that was on the house for anyone who would dare stomach all the spice. I tried with all my might but gave up too close to the finish line. The noodle box was very unimpressive and left a lot to be desired. I look forward to my next visit so I can work my way through the menu.

It will be a space where minds collaborate and create, a ‘second place’, a relaxed neighborhood café/bar. We are really excited about our second home in Delhi. From the first Social in Bangalore a year ago, to Colaba Social via Hauz Khas Social, and now Def. Col. Social; the journey has been exhilarating and we’re not stopping anytime soon!”

The staff here is friendly and there are lot of new friends to be made here every time you visit. The booze is cheap, the cocktails have enough liquor to beat your mid week blues and the grub is affordable and made for sharing. I loved visiting social during the evenings and cant wait to work out of the space during the day next week.
