Jaipur is synonymous with the colourful spice markets, visits to Rajmahal and Rambagh Palace, drinking copious amounts of lassi and eating laal maas. For visitors and residents who need a little TLC, there aren’t too many places that one can check in to for some guilt free indulgence.

I read about Natasha Singh Bissau and her enterprise called Tangerine Salon and knew I had to check it out. Nestled in a quiet road on Civil Lines, the salon is a breath of fresh air from the moment you walk in. The interiors are warm, inviting with plenty of natural light. The staff at the desk and the salon are extremely friendly and helpful. The shelves are immaculately stacked with ethical beauty products like ‘Pahadi Local’, ‘Nashi’ among others.

The space is extremely comfortable and there is a special room for hair treatments and one for bridal make up and express mani pedis. I order a hot herbal tea to sooth my cough, grab a magazine and sit down. After a comprehensive consultation, the Nashi Argan oil treatment was recommended to me to help with dry, brittle, colour damaged hair.

Argan oil, as you know is extremely beneficial for your hair when applied consistency. It can help bring back lustre, repair damage from heat and colours, prevent greying and eliminate hair fall. Nashi is an Italian company that stocks at Tangerine Salon, Jaipur and the brand prides itself on being sustainable, eco friendly and completely organic.

This ridiculously indulgent treatment allows you to sit back and literally let your hair down. Our tresses are subject to a wide variety of pollutants in the air, chemicals from dyes and sprays, heat from styling products and general damage because of the sun and not sleeping on satin pillows. Its difficult to give your hair the TLC that it requires but the Nashi Argan oil treatment is hugely popular for delivering nourishment from the root to the tip. Unlike other hair spas, this treatment doesn’t use a steamer but employs hot towels to ensure that the ‘Nashi’ serum has penetrated the hair shaft and gone straight to the roots. Hot towels are easier to use and more eco friendly than using electricity driven steamers. After the treatment was up, I was woken up the aromatic smell of hot ginger spiced tea. I let my hair air dry a little so that I could see a difference in texture. I know one treatment alone wont fix all the damage and everything I’ve put my hair through in the last few years but it sure as hell made a difference. My ends were softer to touch and my hair looked healthier than before.

I grabbed some after care tips from Natasha and her team, pottered around the salon to take some photographs because I couldn’t get enough of the space. I was waiting for my taxi to arrive so I settled for an express mani pedi and a few layers of OPI nail lacquer that would have me ready for my dinner within minutes. I loved how prompt the service was and how helpful the staff was to answer all my questions and customise, wherever necessary.

Tangerine also stocks a bunch of different brands from Bblunt, Nashi, Morrocan Hair Oil, Dermalogica, Label M and Kevin Murphy. The space is large enough to host a bunch of girls if you want to come in together on a weekend and spend the afternoon chatting over facials and mani pedis or intimate enough if you just want to zone out with your headphones on and wake up feeling like a goddess. The space is designed with to make you feel comfortable from the moment you step in. I highly recommend it to anyone who lives in Jaipur or those of you that make a quick pitstop at the Pink City. In fact, I liked the team and the services so much that I ended collaborating with Natasha and the salon the next day for a shoot at Royal Heritage Haveli. Verdict- I loved spending my afternoon in the care of the staff at Tangerine Salon. The space is beautifully curated with enough natural light and strategically located. It has earned a number of loyalists from expats, models, bloggers and residents of Jaipur. I love how pristine the mani pedi stations are and that their hygiene standards are impeccable. I highly recommend the argan oil treatment and if you want to take stuff home, grab a box from Pahadi Local (here) that they stock in house.

Thank you for spoiling me rotten all afternoon and for introducing me to kinder cosmetics like Pahadi local- I absolutely love their oil and the fact that they promote sustainable living. I can’t wait to be back for another hair ritual and a ‘dermalogica’ facial.
