Como Point Yamu

Situated at the southernmost tip of Phuket, Como Point Yamu overlooks the gorgeous Phang Nga Bay, famous for its dramatic limestone islands. Bathed in hues of grey, white, and blue to match the stunning seascape that surrounds Cape Yamu.

This luxury resort combines the best of contemporary design with minimalism that you can see as you walk around the resort. Besides the panoramic beauty of the area itself, Como Point Yamu offers a host of amenities, a wide range of accommodation types, great dining options, and a superb wellness retreat.

Como Point Yamu sits on Phuket’s eastern flank and offers guests a postcard view of the Phang Nga Bay from almost any spot you find yourself in. The bay has become an increasingly popular destination for yachting and for other activities such as snorkelling, diving, fishing, kayaking, sailing and even rock climbing. What’s better still is that the location has received one of the highest possible unstated honours as it featured in James Bond: The Man with the Golden Gun. Immortalized by Roger Moore, Cape Yamu offers visitors a unique opportunity to soak in a 360-degree view of the Andaman Sea. The rooms are beautifully appointed with breathtaking views of the bay and if you are lucky, you can also catch the spectacular sunsets where the sky goes from orange to an almost crimson hue in a matter of a few minutes.

Como Hotels and Resorts are known to design their properties by drawing inspiration from their surroundings and Como Point Yamu doesn’t disappoint in this aspect. The rooms and suites are accented by hues of blue whereas the villas are tiled in greys and whites; both colour schemes perfectly accentuate the cobalt waters that surround the property. The resort houses 79 naturally well-lit rooms and suites, as well as 27 standalone villas, all of which are fitted with floor-to-ceiling bay windows, thereby ensuring that you consume as much of the visual beauty as is possible. As an added bonus, they do have accommodation options that offer private pools.

My favourite part is that the resort also offers a complimentary boat transfer to the Como Beach Club that features a secluded private beach and a host of water activities. The swimming pool is absolutely glorious and has salt water instead of chlorinated water so you needn’t worry about swimming with googles. You can order Mai Tai’s, coconuts, partake in the delicious fare or rent some equipment and go paddle boarding, windsurfing or snorkelling. The water is crystal clear and the staff is super attentive so you can be sure that your glass will never be empty. You could also grab some shade and book yourself an express facial or an indulgent massage

Besides its picture perfect location and well thought out design, Como Point Yamu also ticks the box for a great dining experience. Besides the Aqua Bar that’s well equipped to quench your thirst at any time during the day (it shuts at midnight), the resort also has 2 world-class restaurants. La Sirena is an Italian all-day dining restaurant that makes some delicious wood-fired lunch preparations, pasta, salads, and seafood. The restaurant even makes its own breakfast cereals. But if it’s local food you’re after, Nahmyaa is a fine dining restaurant that’s open only for dinner service and features a cuisine inspired by Thai street cooking. I ate my bodyweight in grouper and snapper that way and I loved that every dish, although regionally inspired, was bursting at the seams with flavour.

The COMO takes your dietary intolerances and preferences very seriously, which is why the kitchen staff  is pleased to recommend and prepare gluten free, vegan, dairy free and sugar free, should you prefer that. If you are ordering food into your room, I would prefer that you tucked into the ‘Como Shambhala’ menu which consists of vegan desserts, paleo friendly breakfast options, flaxseed sandwiches, grain free main options and delicious smoothies that look too pretty to pass up. Its safe to say that I ate my bodyweight in desserts during the trip and I’m lucky to have pool access to burn all those calories.

The final feather in Como Point Yamu’s cap has to be the Como Shambhala Spa. The ocean facing wellness retreat offers holistic treatments designed to put you mind and body at ease as well as improve your spiritual balance. Some of the services they offer include a wide range of Asian-inspired massages, physical fitness activities like yoga and Pilates, as well as luxurious body and facial care treatment plans that include deep cleansing, purification, oxygenation and facial hydration. The therapists are all exceptionally trained professionals who will most certainly leave you craving for more. You must try the signature Como Shambhala Massage which is highly sought after by frequent travellers and people who need a little TLC to knead their soreness away.

Verdict: there’s something for every kind of traveller at the Como Point Yamu. You will fall in love with the interiors, landscaping, and attention to detail. If you are looking to escape the madness of 3 am parties and night markets in Phuket, you have come to the right place. The hotel has everything you’d expect from a 5-star resort. Besides its prime location and an exhaustive list of amenities, the attention to detail when it comes to making each guest feel special is top notch. I suggest you book yourself in for a signature Como Shambhala massage upon arrival that will ease with the jet lag and watch the massage therapists knead your troubles away. The food at Nahmya is absolutely unmissable and I would definitely recommend that you give the Como Shambhala menu a shot if you like to stay healthy on holiday. I love their flax bread sandwiches, antioxidant rich smoothies with maca, bee pollen and coconut oil and the vegan desserts. Special thanks to Pim and the Como team for looking after us so well and making sure our stay was every bit memorable. Given all the positives that it boasts off, Como Point Yamu does live up to its reputation and should definitely find a place on your options list when considering where to stay in Phuket.

If you are looking to celebrate your birthday, anniversary or a big raise- you can inform the COMO staff ahead of time. They offer boat cruises at sunset, a visit to the Gibbon rehabilitation centre and a snorkel trip towards the Khai Islands, to name a few.
