Being Vulnerable

For the longest time, I was afraid of letting other people in on my vulnerable side. Post my divorce, most people around me told me that I needed to act a certain way and not open up about my situation with friends and family to avoid frowns, disdainful looks and judgement. I realised that I had to let people in to my life in order to heal and allow myself to come to terms with what had happened so instead of closing myself up to the world and staying mum on the subject I began to accept it and talk about it. As women, we’ve always been told to play up our strengths and not appear vulnerable like its a bad thing. I have realised that nothing could be further from the truth. Being vulnerable is a beautiful and humbling experience that allows you to experience and accept what “is”.

“Vulnerability is the only authentic state. Being vulnerable means being open, for wounding, but also for pleasure. Being open to the wounds of life means also being open to the bounty and beauty. Don’t mask or deny your vulnerability: it is your greatest asset. Be vulnerable: quake and shake in your boots with it. the new goodness that is coming to you, in the form of people, situations, and things can only come to you when you are vulnerable, i.e. open”- Stephen Russell,

I could hear people talking under their breath when they said you are almost 30, you can’t be doing this for much longer. I was concerned the first few times when they said don’t wear a bikini, don’t quit your full time job to write and for heavens sake don’t write with candour on love and relationships. People would often say you won’t get married if you travel this much or wear a bikini every day of the week on social media. 2 years later and it’s still the same but I’m overwhelmed by all the love and support I’ve received from friends , family and Instagram friends all over the world.

Thank you for writing in to me and thank you for all the support and love. I couldn’t have done it without you.
